Immediately after we found out Nick's next assignment would be in Germany, we Google-Imaged "Kaiserslautern". Most images that come up are of this beautiful fountain. It has stuck in our heads, and we have been excited to go find this fountain that had become the symbol in our minds of our new home.
This fountain, "Kaiserbrunnen" (meaning Emperor's Fountain), lies in the historic part of the city. The fountain is huge and features a variety of whimsical figures representing the city of Kaiserslautern. A giant fish is present (representing a 380 lb fish caught here in the 1400s), along with the University Owl, a soccer ball for the local Red Bulls, a sewing machine and a motor block for the Pfaff sewing-machine company and automaker Opel.
We also found out that Kaiserslautern means "Emperors Fountain". The tap water is really quite tasty.
Side note, the cars here are really small. A lot of smart cars, and other small compact cars. You really only see mini vans on base, whoops. Love this place below.
